Theatre Technician-Permanent Part-time

The Theatre Technician is part of the technical team and shares responsibility for the effective and efficient management and delivery of Resources Centre for the Arts (RCA) technical services. The Theatre Technician reports to the Technical Director.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • To aid in the setup, running and teardown of productions and/or events by incoming renters or for RCA’s own productions/presentations under the direction of the Technical Director including by not limited to:
    • Setup of rigging, lighting, video, sound equipment, set, prop, masking, live-streaming
    • Participate in the accurate and efficient scene changes, turnarounds, setups and similar tasks
    • Operate sound, lighting, video, and other effects during performances as directed by members of the creative and production teams, within the technical services included in the rental contract.
    • Participate in the clearing and re-setting of the Main Stage and associated areas in preparation for the incoming renters or RCA.
  • To maintain technical gear of the theatre and ensure that it is in safe working order
  • To ensure the smooth running of the technical aspects of the venue’s day-to-day operation.
  • To carry out all duties in accordance with the organization’s Health and Safety Policy and promote a culture of safety.
  • To attend regular staff meetings and technical meetings with renters as required.

 

Skills

  • Ability to work in a team and under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • A thorough understanding of the production process and theatre production techniques.
  • Knowledge of how to use modern lighting, sound, video, live streaming, accessibility services, and other technical equipment. Experience with sound in particular, an asset.
  • An interest in Theatre.
  • Flexibility and the ability to improvise when faced with unexpected situations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Diplomacy and collaborative communication skills are an asset

Start Date: February 9, 2026 (negotiable)

Permanent, Part-Time  20 min hours/week, weekend/evening and on-call work required

Permanent part-time. $22/hour and includes the following benefits:
