2026-27 Season

Aug 19, 2026 (St. John’s, NL) – Resource Centre for the Arts Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its offerings for the 2026-2027 Season at the LSPU Hall. This ambitious line-up, featuring some of the province’s finest artists, includes an English language world premiere, a Broadway favourite, a wartime love story, and more.

“Each show this season is, in some way, about a struggle to survive,” says Artistic Animateur Meghan Greeley. “Our characters battle with mental illness, with hidden identity, with shame, with a global pandemic, with a literal battle between countries. When the world is dark or confusing, unkind or frightening, these characters push back and do whatever they can to survive.”

Complementing RCAT’s Main Stage offerings this Season will be the continuation of its INKubator program, an opportunity for both emerging and established multidisciplinary artists to explore a work in development, and its Playwright in Residence program, which will support an established local playwright in the year-long creation of an original script. The selected Playwright in Residence will in turn offer supportive programming for emerging playwrights. “Our local community is bursting with writers at all stages of their careers,” says Greeley. “These programs are designed to foster artists in their process work, giving them the time and resources to explore and dream.” Selected artists for these programs will be announced in September.

2026-27 also marks the second season of RCAT’s Theatre Academy. Created to provide youth with a holistic introduction to theatre, combining acting and performance with design and behind-the-scenes training, this program creates a safe space for young people to explore their creative curiosities and, most importantly, have fun. The fall semester will include 8 after-school classes running from September 21 to November 23. Classes are available for Primary (ages 6-8), Elementary (ages 9-11), Intermediate (ages 12-14), and High School (ages 15-18) levels. Our classes are open to all experience, interest, and comfort levels. Each semester will culminate in a Main Stage performance in which the students share the stage, and learn from, professional artists.

“Students who take theatre classes learn skills that are essential to development and growing up into happy and healthy adults,” says RCAT Director of Education Luke Rowe. “In addition to the hands-on training with working industry professionals, our students build confidence, learn to think on their feet, and find out who they are.”

Our season launches with a presentation of the Perchance Theatre production of Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. This production stars comedian John Sheehan, and is directed by Allison Moira Kelly.

Every Brilliant Thing is a one-man show, following his journey through life, love, and loss, using honesty, humour and a growing list of joys to navigate the impact of his mother’s mental illness.

From director Allison Moira Kelly: “It’s been a pleasure to work on this play with John and the team. I’ve been hoping for a chance to work on this play for many years. I hope, after seeing the play, you’ll understand why. The play deals with deep sadness. Despair. Depression. The play doesn’t offer a solution. For some, there is no solution. What it hopes to do is highlight some goodness. I like to think of the play as a promise that goodness does not disappear.”

A co-production between Tarragon Theatre in Toronto, Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, and Resource Centre for the Arts Theatre Company. The Night Logan Woke up by Michel Marc Bouchard is directed by Jillian Keiley, adapted by Robert Chafe, commissioned by Playwrights’ Workshop Montréal and the Stratford Festival, and developed the with support of PWM.

As a girl, Emilia Lynch would cheat insomnia by slipping into neighboring houses to spy on people as they slept, including her childhood crush Logan Goodyear.

Now, many years later, Emilia— an internationally renowned embalmer to the rich and famous— has returned to her small Newfoundland town following the death of her mother. As she prepares for the funeral alongside her three brothers, a shocking revelation is unearthed in her mother’s will; the final devastating consequence of the night Logan woke up.

Surreal, daring, and darkly funny, The Night Logan Woke Up is one of Bouchard’s finest works, making its long-awaited English language world premiere and runs from Oct 22 – Nov 1 at the Hall before a month-long Toronto run.

Directed by Lianna Makuch and starring playwrights and performers Matthew MacKenzie & Mariya Khomutova, this Puncuate! Theatre Production is RCAT’s National Presentation and runs at the Hall from March 18 – 21.

Matt and Masha hit it off during a theatre research trip in Ukraine. At first, they seem like opposites: Masha loves the sea, Matt loves mountains. Masha is Ukrainian, Matt is Métis. But the passionate spark ignited between them cannot be denied. Despite the improbabilities of a cross-continental relationship, a few fairy-tale visits overseas solidify their bond. But when it seems distance could be the only obstacle in their path, a series of extreme circumstances put their commitment to the ultimate test.

Based on actual events, First Métis Man of Odesa is the extraordinary true story of a whirlwind romance that withstands a global pandemic, a surprise pregnancy, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Transcending the usual tropes of documentary theatre, this heartwarming how-we-got-together tale turns art of the here and now into a catalyst for action and a hopeful ode for a better future.
