Main Stage Programming

Each RCAT Season features 1-2 Main Stage productions, 1 co-production (affectionately known as our “Significant Other Series” show), 2-3 Presentations, and 5 INKubator previews of works in development.

RCAT accepts unsolicited submissions of original works or project ideas. While all submissions are carefully considered, RCAT gives primary focus to the works of Newfoundland and Labrador-based Artists, or Artists and stories with strong connections to the province.

RCAT programs 1-2 Main Stage productions per Season.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

RCAT programming seeks to be timely, topical, and reflect the realities of our current world. We also aim to reflect the lived realities of our population; we are committed to equity and inclusion and encourage submissions from BIPOC communities, Deaf Artists, and disability-identified Artists, as well as those who identify with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

RCAT accepts submissions at all stages of development; early drafts exhibiting promise may be selected for development support via workshops, dramaturgical guidance, and/or our INKubator Series.

We accept submissions in any genre, from playwrights with any amount of professional experience. There are no barriers to entry; if you submit it, we will read it.

Still uncertain if your play is a good fit for RCAT? Please email our Artistic Animateur Meghan Greeley at animateur@rcatheatre.ca to start a conversation.

HOW ARE PLAYS SELECTED?

Plays for upcoming Seasons are selected on an annual basis by our Artistic Animateur in consultation with a Programming Advisory Committee. This Committee is comprised of RCAT’s Creative Producer and a diverse swath of theatre professionals and community members. They provide feedback on submissions and ensure that the Animateur is not programming within a vacuum, but rather with a mind to the interests/stories of the community and realities of the current zeitgeist.

The Programming Advisory Committee is formed each year, and programming is typically determined at one-year increments, with RCAT often developing shows with a goal of future production. If you would like to be considered for the Programming Advisory Committee, please email animateur@rcatheatre.ca.
