Scene & Heard Workshop: Filmmaker 101- Grants & Funding

Join Anna Petras, award-winning producer and co-owner of Newfound FIlms Inc., as she guides you through the steps of how to apply for and successfully receiving film funding. This workshop will focus on budgeting and where to allocate your funds from a case-study approach (films in the $500-$50,000 range) including where to start when it comes to cast, crew and materials costs, and an overview of how a budget changes to go beyond that price range (such as PICTURE START or NSI Drama Prize Program ). Anna will help you learn where to apply for municipal, provincial and federal money as well as discussing other funding options (crowdsourcing, private grants, etc.) while offering tips for each application including how to know your grant jury audiences (NLAC, PS/First time Film, NLFDC, City Grant, Canada Council, etc.). If this is your first film or your tenth, this workshop will give you the knowledge you need to start or serve as a perfect refresher in the ever-changing funding world.
