Featuring Noel Joe’s The Forgotten Warriors and CBC’s Aunt Nellie’s Legacy! Join us at the LSPU Hall for an evening of impactful documentaries.
“The Forgotten Warriors” is the unbelievable true story of the courageous last stand by Mi’kmaq activists from Conne River, NL. In 1983, a group of 9 individuals risked their lives by beginning a hunger strike in a desperate plea to government to release funds owed to them. It was an act of courage and determination fuelled by a hunger for justice – justice for their families, for those who came before them, and for those who would come behind. Director Noel Joe narrates this compelling documentary and recounts the tale with first-hand commentary from the hunger strikers, those who assisted their efforts in 1983, as well as family members.
“Aunt Nellie’s Legacy” – This documentary comes from Makkovik on Labrador’s north coast. In this film you’ll meet the talented Nellie Winters, the pride of Nunatsiavut. Her pursuit of Inuit art and craft has inspired her family and her community.
Doors open at 7:30PM and the event begins at 8:00PM. This event is all ages.
