About the Work
Me So You So Me exposes the domestic performances of a couple as everyday great acts of passion, as vivid and explicit attempts to connect to our most prized notions of self and togetherness. David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen duet with palpable complicity in attempts to remedy their individual and competing concoctions of fact and fantasy that skew who they think they are and want to be, to each other. Out Innerspace’s idiosyncratic movement is the result of wildly eclectic influences spun into DNA for characters and dance making. Unclassifiable music, cartoon absurdity and violence, a dogmatic use of rhythm, and an anthology of personal and public truths combine to celebrate daily love in its most astronomical and puny proportions. Psychological non-space is transformed into ever changing emotional and physical territory by light, video and costume design combining as abstract pages of a graphic novel. Here the gaze of the other is a distorting mirror of oneself and warping judgements of what is trivial and monumental turn differences into ammunition for epic battles. Amongst all the mirth and madness come transformative connections and intimate unmasking that change the way we see ourselves through the eyes of partnership.
About the Company
Out Innerspace Dance Theatre is a Vancouver based company dedicated to furthering the development and appreciation of contemporary dance in Canada through the creation of innovative and integral dance works with personal and public significance. Artistic Directors David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen hail from British Columbia but their practice has lead them abroad including a 2 year residency in Belgium before returning to Vancouver to form Out Innerspace. Now OIS tours nationally and leads Modus Operandi a multi-year contemporary dance program for young aspiring professionals. OIS is devoted to movement invention, new technology, dialogue, collaboration, curiosity and risk taking as means to an ever evolving idiom that is both distinct and universally understood. They are determined to push beyond expected aesthetics with uncompromising rigour and unreserved ingenuity to make extraordinary, unforgettable and inclusive dance experiences.
