PARC NL New Play Readings

Thanks to funding support from ArtsNL and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, PARC is thrilled to offer play development support to NL members Joseph Dennis’s “Caribou”, Jeremy Nolan’s “shit, piss and cystic fibrosis” and Kira Sheppard’s “Sweet Dreams” will be receiving workshops next week in St. John’s, NL.
In this first session, which will take place on November 10 at the Cox and Palmer Second Space (LSPU Hall) we’ll showcase the works from:
– 7 pm – 8:30 pm – Kira Sheppard’s “Sweet Dreams”
– 8:45 pm – 10 pm – Joseph Dennis’s “Caribou”
– 10 pm – 11 pm – Jeremy Nolan’s “shit, piss and cystic fibrosis”

– Kira Sheppard’s “Sweet Dreams”
Kira Sheppard is a writer of songs, stories and other things. She is based in St. John’s, NL where she is often found walking the trails and playing the harp. She has toured across North America with her music, independently produced albums and theatre, and has collaborated with a wide range of artists nationally. Her diverse abilities and originality make her an innovative voice in the vibrant St. John’s art scene. Kira has just released her new album entitled ‘The Internet Moon’ and will be touring in spring 2024. She is also working on a collection of short stories and her second full-length play.

Synopsis: Alice and Hazel navigate their way through their new home in a tropical paradise with the help of a talking dog.

Joseph Dennis is a St. John’s based artist best known for directing, producing, and writing The Heat of the Moment Trilogy, which played at the St. John’s Short Play Festival from 2020-2022. Joseph is a graduate of Memorial University’s Diploma in Stage and Screen Technique and currently serves as a member of the St. John’s Shorts Board. His new play Caribou is currently in development.

Synopsis: Two local country singers with vastly different outlooks on culture try to write a hit song together while dealing with the reality of their crumbling long-term relationship.

Jeremy Nolan is an actor and writer from St. John’s, NL. Jeremy has a BA in Communications and English and a diploma in Communications and Performance Media from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. Jeremy was awarded the Dick Buehler Award for Theatre from MUNL in 2019. His recent acting credits include CityTV’s Hudson & Rex, Rising Tide Theatre, and Artistic Fraud’s “The Imaginary Real.” Recent writing credits include “Ecstasy of Gold” and “End-Stage” at the 2019 and 2021 St. John’s Short Play Festival.
Jeremy Nolan is an actor and writer from St. John’s, NL. Jeremy has a BA in Communications and English and a diploma in Communications and Performance Media from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. Jeremy has Cystic Fibrosis, type 1 Diabetes, received a double lung transplant in 2014, and all the “fun” that comes with it. He enjoys making fun of his various diseases and disabilities in his writing, in this case, getting carried away with good ol’ fashioned poop jokes.
Synopsis: When Salty, a young man with Cystic Fibrosis, begins his final session at a drug testing facility, the odd experiments begin to unravel a more sinister game at play.
