The Rufus Guinchard Project is a research project in development since 2019. Soon to become
a biographical play about Guinchard, this short documentary viewing will show all the amazing
stories collected from interviews about Rufus and his impact on keeping traditional music
alive. Rufus was a man from the Northern Peninsula that led many lives; as a carpenter, a
watchman, a seaman, a logger and in his late life, a renowned musical artist. Guinchard had a
prominent impact on rural communities in Newfoundland with his fiddle playing and, once he
travelled for his music, made an impact on the world.
