The Nickel Screenplay Series: Facilitated by Christian Sparkes (Cast no Shadow)
June 17, 2016
Friday June 17th – Cox & Palmer Second Space – $20
Now entering its 12th year, the screenplay series workshop allows three short scripts to go through the process of professional feedback on the script, and with these notes, revise these scripts, then see them come to life with professional actors, in a three-stage process.
The screenplay series has been a wonderful way to let new and emerging artists get a better sense of the craft from start to finish. The aim is to sharpen their writing skills, to deepen their understanding of storytelling from different perspectives, and to train them to receive constructive feedback with grace and use that feedback wisely.
Stage One, scripts submitted for consideration are peer reviewed by three industry professionals, independent of the board of directors. Once three scripts are selected, each selected writer is provided the first round of notes. We encourage the writers to revise the scripts before they go to the next stage.
Script submission deadline is May 25, Decision announcement by May 31
Stage Two starts with additional notes from our award-winning facilitator, Christian Sparkes. The facilitator also oversees casting the experienced actors and directors needed to workshop the scripts during the full day Festival event.
Stage Three sees the directors lead the actors in the two- hour rehearsal for a staged reading of each script on June 17. Writers must be available on this day. On June 17 at 2 pm, a free public reading is held at the LSPU Hall. Following it, the audience is invited to ask questions or offer feedback.
This workshop is sponsored in part by the NLFDC and ACTRA.
