The Technical Assistant is part of the RCA Theatre Season Production team and shares responsibility for the effective and efficient management and delivery of technical services that pertain to the 2019-20 RCA Programming Season. The Technical Assistant acts as a liaison between RCA Theatre and the LSPU Hall Technical Team and reports to the Artistic Animateur.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To participate in the delivery of all technical and repertoire aspects of productions and presentations that are part of the RCA 2019-20 Programming Season as required;
  • To participate in the provision of technical services: lighting, sound, staging, rigging and to ensure, under the direction of the RCA Technical Team, the safe, effective and efficient running of all technical aspects of incoming productions and presentations;
  • To promote and participate in an alert and positive approach to Health & Safety in the delivery of all RCA technical stage services, (i.e. load-ins and strikes, tech rehearsals, performances, etc.), in accordance with RCA’s Health & Safety policy and practice.

Duties Include:

  • To assist and support the RCA Technical Team for the 2019-20 season;
  • To participate in the accurate setup for each production in the season as detailed by its Design team and to ensure each shows’ tech equipment, set, masking and fit-ups are correct daily;
  • To participate in, accurate and efficient scene changes, interval changes, turnarounds, set-ups and to maintain such under the direction of the relevant artistic team or management representative;
  • To participate in the clearing and re-setting of the stage and associated areas when required by incoming companies or organisations
  • To ensure the sets are stored safely as detailed by the production team and the RCA Technical Team;
  • To assist and support the RCA Theatre Production Team and Technical Team in achieving the highest standards of operation through practice;
  • Supporting effective communications between the Technical Department and the RCA Theatre Production Team and Hall Operations;
  • Any other reasonable instruction from the Technical Team.

Health & Safety

  • Working with the RCA Technical Team to promote and participate in an alert and positive approach to Health & Safety; ensuring that RCA’s Health & Safety policy and all relevant Health & Safety legislation is applied effectively to all activities undertaken in the technical areas
  • To adhere to all risk assessments issued by the Technical Team
  • To adhere to all method statements issued by the Technical Team
  • To conduct on the spot risk assessments/method statements as and when required
  • To ensure, under the direction of the Technical Team, that productions meet fire, safety and other technical requirements
