NLAA Public Lecture Series: McCullough Mulvin Architects of Dublin, Ireland
September 25, 2014 @ 7:30 pm
The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Architects (NLAA) are hosting a public annual Lecture Series featuring architects and designers from across Canada and, occasionally, Europe. The Lecture Series was created with the intention of increasing the awareness of architecture and of our built environment in Newfoundland and Labrador as well as setting the stage for a designed based dialogue about the cities, towns and outport communities across the province.
The 2014 Fall Lecture Series features three architects or urban planners from various backgrounds and design perspectives that pertain to architectural and urban design issues in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The first lecturer is Ruth O’Herlihy of McCullough Mulvin Architects based in Dublin, Ireland. McCullough Mulvin Architects is an award winning contemporary architecture and urban design practice that has an unusual combination of interest in contemporary architecture as well as historic works. The firm works to redefine the public realm while dealing with Ireland’s diffuse light and stark materiality. Every project is different, shaped around landscape, the sea, the geography of small towns or the particular character of their home city of Dublin, each reflecting the spirit of the city. Their award winning works include cultural projects, civic buildings, and residential work for public and academic use with projects such as Temple Bar Masterplan and Trinity College Long Room Hub
