Submission Policy
(Featuring new guidelines for digital submissions which began during our 2020-21 Season)
Our Mandate: RCA Theatre (RCAT) provides resources and a supportive environment for the production and promotion of Newfoundland and Labrador Theatre.
In the past, there were two deadlines for submission per year (June 15 & December 15), after which The Programming Committee was tasked to meet and review submissions and the progress of ongoing play development within the company.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has offered exceptional challenges for the Production and Presentation of Live Performance in our Community. We have responded to this uncertainty by making the current call for submission a rolling deadline, and by offering the possibility for projects that use digital or non-traditional analogue platforms for engagement.
What can I submit
As ever, RCAT welcomes your submissions in consideration for Development or Production in an upcoming Season. We commission and workshop new pieces of Theatre at all stages of their development. It can be a germ of an idea or a fully developed outline. It could be an early or mid-stage draft, or a script that is close to completion. We Program Mainstage Productions, Significant Other Series (that’s SOS, which can take place on the Main Stage or in the Second Space) and have a long and successful production history with Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA). We partner with other companies and co-produce too!
We invite submissions for curation of our Live Magazine! Series, which will continue digitally in our 2021-22 Season. We are interested in play readings that are producible as podcasts. We welcome ideas for live or digital micro-production that fit with current social distancing guidelines, as well as ideas we haven’t thought of yet! Successful Submissions will be developed and programmed alongside regular season activities.
Where possible Submissions should include:
- the project’s artistic objectives;
- names of the members of the company;
- other partners or companies involved (if any)
- biographical material;
- history of development to date (what stage of the process you’re in);
- other means of support for this production (other funders)
- type of programming the project is looking for
- any other relevant material about the project

How can I submit?
Resource Centre for the Arts is committed to gender equity and inclusion and encourage submissions from BIPOC communities, deaf artists, disability-identified artists, as well as those who identify with the 2SLGTBQIA+ community.
All Submissions will be accepted electronically:

Please Note: When you submit to RCAT we are usually programming a season (a year) in advance. Generally speaking, that means if your submission is successful it will be Workshopped or Programmed in an upcoming season. However, circumstances can change and we aim to be as responsive as possible when resources permit additional Development and Programming in the current season. Digital Works may be realized more quickly than those aimed at regular Season Programming. Be aware of these timelines when submitting your work to RCAT.
