Don’t Wait Too Long – An intimate night of enchanting jazz, folk and pop sonic pleasure. Cathy Newhook brings a new voice with a rare old world charm. Growing up surrounded by music, Cathy developed her repertoire of NL traditional music and folk. While living in Ottawa she sang & performed regularly with Sheilagh, an all-female four-part harmony ensemble. Upon returning to St. John’s she was introduced to multi-genre guitarist Kirk Newhook with the intent to begin performing locally. Six years, two beautiful daughters, and countless musical social occasions later the couple have decided to heed Madelaine Peyroux’s musical advice of Don’t Wait Too Long and revisit that original calling that brought them together. Joining Cathy for her St. John’s debut, the Blue Sky Thinkers include seasoned performers Mark Peddle (bass), Scott Mansfield (drums), Evan Smith (piano), Terry Campbell (trumpet) and of course, husband Kirk Newhook (guitar). Performing music from Etta to K.D., & Patsy to Adele, with some Dylan, Lennon & original instrumentals for good measure, Cathy’s warm voice and endearing personality will captivate and leave you longing for more.
