Residuals (住み・墨)“, created and performed by Shion Skye Carter, Residuals (住み・墨) draws visual, sonic, and physical influences from Japanese calligraphy. Dynamic brushstrokes inform Carter’s movement as she traverses hundreds of sheets of translucent paper, evoking an abstracted memory of her Japanese grandparents’ rural home; these memories spark a journey of self-discovery, where the layers of her identity begin to unfurl.

I Chart” by SiNS (Sometimes in Nova Scotia) Dance: Jacinte Armstrong & Sarah Chase. This solo for K’jipuktuk/Halifax-based dance artist Jacinte Armstrong is a ‘dance story’ by B.C.-based choreographer Sarah Chase. A unique collaboration, I Chart explores the relationship between word and gesture, between the “I” and the “eye”. The result is poetic, mathematical, mesmerizing, and relatable. Armstrong’s unique and quirky presence brings this work to life through story and movement.
