Lunch at the Hall: Social Media
February 12, 2014 @ 1:00 pm
A little over a year since the launch of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) social media strategy, the NLAC wants to pass along some of its knowledge and experience. Partnering with Newfound Marketing and the Resource Centre for the Arts, the NLAC has sought to use the Lunch at the Hall slots on a monthly basis to host a social media workshop series.
The social media workshop series will offer guidance and advice on how to utilize different social media marketing tools, specifically tailored to the interests and needs of artists, arts organizations, and groups. The idea for the series was born from an initial all-encompassing session that was well attended, and generated conversation about the need for more workshops on the subject.
After conducting a survey of the provincial arts community, which was open for a few months following the initial session, a priority list of topics was identified. The survey also determined that a monthly frequency was preferred, and respondents outside the St. John’s metro region indicated that being able to access the workshops via YouTube or PDF versions of the slides would be most ideal.
To that end, the NLAC in partnership with the Resource Centre for the Arts, will be recording the sessions and making them available on a soon to be established NLAC YouTube channel. Details surrounding the launch of the NLAC’s new YouTube channel will be forthcoming shortly following the initial session focusing on Facebook, scheduled for Wednesday, February 12 in the Cox & Palmer Second Space at the LSPU Hall from 1pm to 2pm. The presentations will also be made available on the NLAC’s website as PDFs, accessible through the main page at www.nlac.ca.
Future sessions in the social media workshop series will include Twitter (March), YouTube (April), Instagram/Pintrest (May), Blog/Content Development (June), Social Media Website Integration (July), LinkedIn (August), Google+ (September), Vine (October), and SoundCloud (November). This line up is subject to change based on social media platform trends. The social media workshop series is open to anyone in the arts community interested in attending, no advanced registration is required.
