Second Space Series: Stand-up Comedy Night with Luke Lawrence, Matt Wright & Greg King

Up-and-coming comic. Aspiring writer. Future diabetic. Matt Wright was introduced to the comedy world in the Yuk Yuk’s “Funniest Newfoundlander” contest, eventually placing 2nd overall in the competition in his 3rd ever show. Since then, he has continued to wow audiences with his energetic style, strong stage presence and quick wit. Matt’s rise in the St. John’s comedy scene was highlighted when he opened for Nikki Payne in November 2012.

Greg King is a regular within the St. John’s comedy scene and since 2009 he was been charming audiences with his conversational type humor. His unique perceptions on life and living it are sure to make you laugh while you think. Originally a singer and musician, he soon began branching out as an actor working and touring with such well known Newfoundland theatre troupes has Rising Tide, RCAT, and TNL. In Newfoundland and Labrador, he is well known for his work with the theatre company Bandwagon Productions where for 8 years he was a lead actor and the musical director of the Seabird Theatre Festival. He also preformed annually with this company as an originally member and co-creator of the comedy troupe “The Gills’”. This experience gave him a taste for comedy which allowed him to make an easy transition into standup. Currently he is also the host of a show on rogers television called “Comedy in the City”, a half an hour program which focusses on the St. John’s comedy scene and the performers involved in it. Greg King is an actor, comedian, musician, singer, teacher and writer who is dedicated to each and everyone of his fans. He is truly a “King of Arts”.

Luke Lawrence is a comedian and actor who has performed at the St. John’s Comedy Festival with Trent McLellan and opened for John Sheehan. He’s performed in comedy clubs from Jon Lovitz’ Comedy Club in Los Angeles to YukYuks and the LSPU Hall in St. John’s. His film credits include roles in films with directors John N. Smith (Love & Savagery, Random Passage), Robert Knoll (The Hill), Mary Lewis (When Ponds Freeze Over, Genie Award for Best Live Action 1998), and Mary Walsh (Young Triffie) as well as emerging directors like Rob Blackie (Quiet at Dawn, Directors Guild of Canada Best Short Film 2010), Ruth Lawrence (BARK), and Mark Hoffe (Snarbuckled). He worked with writer/director Berni Stapleton developing a theatre work for young people called Message from the Future commissioned by the Department of Justice. He has studied with Lewis Baumander, Michael Armstrong, and Sears & Switzer in Toronto.
